What meeting? I was expecting something in addition to fishing. Don't get me wrong, I had a GREAT time (even after working night shift Tuesday Night and catching a nap and driving roughly 300 miles to attend the "Meeting").
I must say that they members that I talked to, I couldn't ask for a nicer group of men. I will be going back down to fish the HRBT the first week of June (the Bluefish action was full on, COOL!) and maybe try my hand at Lynnhaven (does anybody know where I can tent camp down there?) for some Trout and Flounder.
Where do I post my "Turtle" story? I want one of those nifty stickers. And speaking of stickers/decals, Chad I wanted to get a couple of those GLoomis ones you had but you had already "left the building".
I don't recall the guy's name but he was taking photo's with his DSLR at the ramp. I would like a copy of what you took. You can send to ADAMSDL64@AOL.COM so that I can show the wife (to confirm my story and whereabouts). Thanks.
So thanks to all of you that made my "Maiden Saltwater Voyage" a great time. We WILL do it again.

That was my camera and ill post the pics here shortly. I was a bit taken by the lack of a formal meeting as per the website. But we are anglers and the water was calling.

The purpose of the May meeting was to introduce people to HRBT night fishing. I believe that was executed flawlessly. Everyone who went knows where to park, how to paddle out and exactly where and how to fish it. It would have been a waste of time to do any of the normal things we do at indoor sitdown meetings. I sure would not like to have stood around in a big group in the parking lot in my wadders until people got done talking. There was plenty of opportunity to talk to Ray, Chad, Cory or anyone about tactics, etc. Thanks guys....excellent meeting! |

Fish/Depthfinder reading tactics
I wasn't able to make it to the meeting but I wanted to attend for this particular lesson. I will try to tak pictures of my FFer when I go out next and post them with questions on what Im looking at. I suck at reading it. Unless I see those nifty little fish symbols, Im easily confused. When there is an arch, Im not sure if Im looking at bait, fish, seaweed and so on. Wilderness Ride 135 (Yellow)

I do believe that it was posted that there would be a "class" on reading your depth finder and then go fish. Just saying that "everyone knows" is incorrect. I know people who came to attend the "class" and there was none. I'm just saying. I was there and heard the disappointment from some people. Heritage Redfish 14 |

Well as I mentioned before, this Saltwater fishing is new to me and never having any experience and the fact that a meeting was going to be held on a day that I could make the drive over stacked on top was the fact that there was going to be instruction on some topics that would be helpful to myself along with being able to having someone to tag along with while fishing the HRBT.... well I just couldn't pass up the opportunity.
Anyhow, I WILL be back for more fishing (time and GAS money permitting). I don't have my Ride fully rigged yet (only a crate and now a paddle leash I got from Wild River Outfitters), so I will be getting ideas from some of the guys at the "Meetings".
Anyhow, I still had a GREAT time (did I mention that Bluefish are built just like Pirhana's at least in the teeth dept.) and look foward to more good times with my new collection of Kayak fishing friends. |

maybe we need a itinerary before each meeting posted on the site. Communication and accountability seemed to be lacking at the last meeting. who was doing the ff course? maybe we can do it again and next time ask for members to volunteer to buddy with a newbie.

I know its kind of late to post a comment reguarding the Mat meeting but I want to anyway. It was great!! A lot of like minded people got together, talked, chatted, launched then went fishing. That's what we are all about anyway. Absolutely the most kayak fishing people ever at the HRBT and lots ot fish were cought. Lets stt, trout, two kinds, flounder, stripers, what else? I know one guy cought his first flounder that evening.
What fun!!! Once you see that no one really wins, The Majic begins. JBuffett |

This may not be the appropriate forum, but I know of a class in June being taught locally by the guru of depth finders (who's name escapes me at the moment....goes by Dr. Something) Class is several hours and is $50. If anyone is interested, bmail me and I'll send you the info. It's really for boaters and covers FF and GPS. I attended a couple of months ago and it really is worth the $'s, even if you don't have a fancy-schmancy FF/GPS unit. |
