Kiptopeake

How deep is Kiptopeake around the ships?

Will a 1.5 lb anchor do?

All help will be appreciated,

Kam

Re: Kiptopeake

20 to 30 feet. take alot of rope. 100' will hold.  there is alot of snags around them. or you can tie up to the rebar.

If your anchor has a loop on the bottom, tie your anchor rope to it first. Run the rope up to the top of the anchor and secure it to the top loop with a small cable tie. ( make sure the tie you choose is not too strong, so if your anchor snags up you can give it a hard yank...and the tie will break away from the top loop and pull the anchor from the bottom giving you another chance to free it ) I have snagged pretty good there and the tie has save me more than once. Carry extra ties so you can rerig and get back in the game. Like Kevin said, bring enough rope. Those prefab rigs you get at Boaters World come with about 25' of rope and won't cut it here.

Re: Kiptopeake

THanks for the info.  I have a lot of rope but it is a cheap 30lb rope from Walmart.  I might have to invest in something else but I got it because it was thin.  As for the loop at the bottom of the anchor, I will do that and attatch 20 lb mono around the top so if i want to break it i'll just yank hard.

thanks

Kam

Re: Kiptopeake

For anchor rope I use parachute cord.  It's held up pretty good; been using the same piece for about 5, 6 years now.  Probably past time to change it...
