Re: drum rig?

Drum bait rigs are fairly simple. A 2/O circle on a short (12-24") leader of 20-40 lb. test to a swivel that's fished with a sliding egg sinker and a bead above it. Crab, mullet or any fresh cut bait will work.

Re: drum rig?

The swivel is on the other end of the leader that holds the hook. The bead is next to the swivel and the egg sinker is above it and they both are on your running line. This is a yak fishing rig not a surf fishing rig, that's a whole different ball game.

Re: drum rig?

hahaha  oh jeeeeez, hold up.   main line then swivel then leader then beed then sinker then hook? man im sorry i know its not this difficult.  its sounds almost like a flounder rig except the sinker and beed are on the leader side of the  instead of main line.  how much weight do you recommend?

Re: drum rig?

Thanks for the 1000 words of pic !!! As far as weight I use barely enough to get the bait to the bottom but no more.

Re: drum rig?

The only thing I would add is I like to use one of those plastic slides with a bank sinker in leiu of the egg sinker.  Sometimes the egg will cut the line, yes, even braid.  The other thing is the pic shows a circle hook and IMO, they suck.

Keeps the sinker from getting stuck on the swivel. Nice Pic by the way. Did you draw that and scan it?

Re: drum rig?

Drum typically feed off the bottom and whether you use this rig or the 'fish-finder' rig Tom was referring to they keep the bait on the bottom. The last decent Drum that I caught was right at dusk on a Zara Spook Jr. top water bait so they do feed on top also.
