KNOTS FOR 80LB ?
Modified By Dennis_in_VA on 11/19/2008 12:21:10 PM)

What knots are you all using to tie 80lb line/leader to hooks and swivels?  I have mastered the snell knot for the HUGE 9/0 - 10/0 hooks with 80lb, now I need an easily tied yet strong knot to use on the swivel end.

BTW , I could  use this stuff for my weed eater if I ever ran out of regular trimmer line.

I just use the same uni knot that I tie for other size line on terminal tackle but take some of the turns off. So instead of a 7-turn uni knot that I use for 10 lb. braib I'll use 3 or 4 turns, whatever your hands and eyes can handle just make sure you get a good clean knot.

Re: KNOTS FOR 80LB ?

I picked up this gadget several months ago http://www.tie-fast.com/ and decided to give it a try.  I have the magnum size and it worked great snelling my 100lb test to the 10/0 hooks.  Much easier than doing it by hand.  On the swivel end, I am going to use crimps just like I do on my drum surf rigs.

You can use an albright knot, just leave a little tag on it, it's hard to get that size line to tighten down all the way with just your hand strength.

ALBRIGHT ?

How does that work on a swivel? My spidey senses indicate a little misinformation here from the master of misdirection....

I thought the Albright was a line to line knot  http://www.animatedknots.com/albright/index.php?LogoImage=LogoGrog.jpg&Website=www.animatedknots.com

I tried this knot  http://www.fintalk.com/fishing-knots/noslip-mono-knot.html and it will take all of 80+ lbs to break (I can see the line enlongating before it breaks ) and I get it as tight to the swivel then do 3-4 wraps, stick tag end thru o-hand knot and cinch down (use pliers and gloved hand). I am going to pre tie several rigs so all I have to do is tie off to the main line.

The 80lb snells very nicely on the big 9/0, ya just gotta keep it from springing loose while ya tighten the knot.

My bad, palomar knot.

I just like this one bc it's easy and strong.

Re: KNOTS FOR 80LB ?

I tried that knot.... it worked pretty good but ya gotta have a good means to be able to cinch it down though. That other knot that I said I was practicing with is a loop knot but I take it down to the eye of the swivel. They both hold really well (when I put the "weight" on it / mine).
