Barrier Islands?

I'm sure this has been covered but for some reason I can't find it.  Are there any public access Barrier islands in virginia?  We are trying to plan a boys weekend for august and would love to find an island where we can camp.  We want to fish the bays and inlets during the day and yak baits out at night for big toothy ones....Thanks

Re: Barrier Islands?

You might want to look at the following website that describes the launch locations along the VA seaside islands and has a link that describes the rules for visiting each of the individual islands

Re: Barrier Islands?

Ugn...so according to that the only one that allows primitive camping is Mockhorn Island :(  I was hoping to find one of the islands that was actually had ocean front to camp on....I guess I'll have to keep looking for ideas

Re: Barrier Islands?

nearly all the islands are owned by the nature conservitory. they dont allow any camping. there is a little island in the wachapregue inlet that you might be able to get way with camping on. i think its called dawson shoal. the east side is for the birds but the west side is frequented by the locals.
