A Virginia Beach man was sent to the hospital Monday night after falling into the chilly waters of the James River.
Authorities say 35-year-old Jerrett Brantley was floating down the river with a friend near Bremo Bluff when his kayak capsized. Brantley was able to get to an island and get out of the water. He waited there for Fluvanna River rescue crews to reach him.
Brantley was transported to the UVA Medical Center as a precaution.
This information appears on the nbc29.com website, and the incident occured at the bremo bluff rapids. Worked the center tonight and handled the DGIF portion of this call. I can't really release any more info than that which was released by our PIO to the media, but thought you guys might be interested in this since the yakker was a local boy. Our guys were gearing up to assist with the search when he was located safe.
