Bird as bait?

Would anyone know what would eat a bird off one of the "No Wake Zone" bouys.  This happened in the main channel of Lynnhaven Inlet fairly close to the tennis court. Saw the splash then the remains (a few feathers). Any ideas?

I've seen largemouth bass take small birds that got too close to the water. Possibly a Striper?

Sharks eat gulls whenever they can, and lots of other things too.

Maybe it dove into the water, was it black?

Nothing dove into the water....I looked to see if any fowl would surface around the area, none did. Also the splash was right up on the bouy..not out a ways like a water fowl would slip into the water. Oh well chalked it up to one less bird.

Off shore boats have been using birds for years.
