HRBT, Mon Nov 11
Modified By alanredfish on 11/11/2008 9:37:06 AM)

Flew down from Richmond on runway 64 for the last of the incoming around 6 and surprisingly got two 18 and 20".   When the tide turned it was almost running down the middle of the bridges- haven't seen that before.   Two other yakers found the sweet spot within several hundred yards of the beach between the bridges in the current and they got several just over 20".   Did meet "the plumber" member(can't remember his name)  from Roanoke,  who had an awesome pvc camera holder and awesome reflectors on his yak.   Got a few more and just couldn't  keep any for dinner- they fought so valiantly!   My new spiderwire got tangled again throwing a light fluke on a 5 hook, any suggestions on line for throwing anything lighter than a 3/8 oz jighead?

Alan give the Fireline in 10lb. a shot, when I could afford braid it's what I used on my trout/flounder rods. If you're getting 'wind knots' (aka the little bundle of joy fluffed up at the end of your spinning reel) it may be the way you're winding the line onto the spool. Have someone hold the spool on a pencil/dowel horizontally, and pull line from the top of the spool and make sure it's going on fairly tight. This should get the line to lay on the spool perfect.

That current was somethin' else out there... did kinda set you up for the perfect drift through the spans though. Good meetin' yah.

Also make sure you throw the bail by hand and give the line a slight tug before you start the retrieve.Once you do it a few times it becomes habit. I use only light braid and haven't had any problems with it at all since I started doing that.

I am "the plumber" you talked to. I managed a pair of Stripers for the ride back to Roanoke and caught several more. I also agree that the flow of the water on the outgoing tide was askew.
