Back River/York River-08/06
Modified By forrest on 8/7/2008 7:50:28 AM)

Went out to Back River in the late afternoon to find the water where I wanted to fish about 6" deep and a million degrees. Tried a couple of spots with no success, so loaded up and went out on the York River. Fished a deep drop off and for the next 45 minutes only managed 1 oystertoad. I got a couple of peelers earlier so I started tipping the Gulp with them and that seemed to be the ticket. Caught about a dozen nice size croaker in the 15-16" range, a few 10" spot, puppy drum and what I thought was the next "world record" croaker, but turned out to be a healthy 26" striper. Nice night with not a breath of wind blowing and never saw a single person the whole evening. Forrest

Re: Back River/York River-08/06

Good Morning forrest,

If the Back River water temp is so hot you went to the York to fish, what does this do to the plans to fish BR during the InterClub event. YOU are our leader, please keek us advised. I sent you a PM.

Thanks, Val

Re: Back River/York River-08/06

Sorry, got it. Been sort of busy the last couple of weeks....kids, fishing, summer, fishing, switching jobs, fishing and when I get some spare time I go fishing. Anyway, things are always changing on the Back River. I fish down river away from everybody and the water stays really shallow back there. When the tide starts moving in it brings the fish with it, along with much cooler water. Last year, for example, caught all the big pups you could stand in the morning hours, but once the clock hit noon....forget it. However, the specks, flounder, and big croaker would not show until the afternoon hours. When I went out the other day, it was right before low tide and I didn't feel like doing the 45 minute paddle out to Darlings Bar. I will PM you. Forrest
