Lynnhaven 8/16

Hey I thought I would post up my first Lynnhaven trip....

I got out on the water pretty late since I spent most of the morning hanging out at longpoint bait shop buying a new rod and reel and some misc tackle.  This was really my first successful salt water fishing trip.  So about 3pm we hit the water, Myself, my wife and my 4 year old daughter.  We headed out crab creek and as we came out I went down the "A" channel I think... the tide was low so the sand bar was on my left and the grass was on my right.  I through out a bottom rig with some pink gulp EZ squid... the croaker were nuts for that  stuff!  I started catching small croaker, and the fever caught on with my wife and little girl. They both had poles rigged for bottom with the same pink squid.  My wife caught several nice keeper size croaker, and she also caught some small Spot and one Triple Tail.  I was catching some decent size croaker as we floated down towards the channel markers 5 and 6.  My little girl was catching some croaker as well.  I also caught a small triple tail.

Now it seems like many people dont like to mess with croaker, maybe cause of its ease to catch?? I dunno... but  we had a blast on the water, I talked to some really nice folks in kayaks... this was the best time I have had in a kayak since we bought them last month.  The best thing about it is my wife and daugther are wanting to go fishing now!  Its a dream come true for me!!!

Side note,   As I was leaving I saw a gathering of the POL... I was talking to a few of em.. but I kinda got the "your not in the click vibe" .... maybe it was just me...   oh well... guess im not cool enough!! LOL.

I will be heading back to Lynnahaven this morning... with my family... I will post up the results.

Take care.

Jake

Re: Lynnhaven 8/16

Jake, if you can keep your wife and kid interested in fishing, you are doing something right!  Nothing wrong with croaker, especially if you hook into a big one on light tackle.   Glad to hear you and the family are geting into it.

Good job with the family all catching something.  As long as something is pulling on the line, it's all good.  Croakers are tasty!

Re: Lynnhaven 8/16

Hey Jake, first off your are cool and in the the click. Just ask those two young ladies who went fishing with you. That's the best club right there. Glad you had a good time. hanks for stopping by the shop too. John told me you were in and bought some new gear. Try and stop by sometime when I'm there. Be a pleasure to meet you and the family. Til next tide.

Re: Lynnhaven 8/16

I proudly proclaim my pursuit of croak-zilla; going out on some trips just to target them.  Best chance of getting some mini-fillets for a few self-sufficient meals.  I belong to the same class of fishermen as Kent, glad to take advantage of what's willing to bite.  I concur with the good job of getting your family involved, have tried this with master Cobb and he does not want any part of it.

Re: Lynnhaven 8/16

Thanks for all the replys folks.

We also hit the water on Sunday, we caught around 20ish Croaker and my daughter and wife caught some fiesty spot.  So my daughter has 2 species down for the Junior Angler of VA thing... We are HOOKED on fishing the Lynnhaven inlet.... now I need to find some puppy drum... I will probably be out this Saturday (hurricane permiting) ... hope to meet up with you all soon.

Side note...  Very professional help at Longpointe Tackle... i learned so much in such a short time... I also got some sound advice on a nice spinning reel set up.  They earned a repeat customer on Saturday.

See you all soon.

Hey Jake,

Welcome to the click.  We don't mind catching croaker either. It sure beats catching nothing!  I love Lynnhaven too, I think it's a magical place. Great job getting the family involved. It sounds like you guys had a pretty nice time out there.

Stay cool !

Welcome.  The only thing better than being on the water and catching fish, is doing it with your family.
