| Monday morning Elizabeth River report 11/17/08 |
|
|
I launched from Port Norfolk with 34 degree air temp. and the water was reading 52 degrees. I fished the West Norfolk bridge and picked up a couple striper. I tried a couple other spots hoping for trout but didn't get a hit. Right before I got a couple more striper. I kept my limit of 2 barely legal stripers and called it a COLD morning.
BTW, here is my Hobie Revolution, it's all rigged up now:

I love this thing. I guess I just didn't know what I was missing. I never wanted to spend the extra $ for a Hobie but I'm hooked on it now.

Must be nice to have a job where you can just go fishing on Monday morning instead of sitting in this stupid meeting!
Nice report Tom!

Jesse, I was at work by 8am, walked in with waders still on and changed, sitting at my desk by 8:30 . The launch site is 1/4 mile from my office. 0830 Dayum Son I thought you said you were in the construction business, those are BB&T hours
I knew you were out there and was waiting for a report, my 'eyes' that are working for Magann at the degaussing station said he saw an orange yak over there. He also said he's been working for them long enough to remember when your Pop worked there. He couldn't remember any kids except a little snot-nosed skateboard grommet, but that was a while ago
Oh yeah, congrats on the Schoolies that's better than Rick and I did at our Bainbridge Blvd. spot during lunch yesterday 12' Kingfisher, 14' RedFish, 15' Prowler...Let's go Fishin'............Member BTPC |

Hey Hobie-One_Kenobie.... did you see anybody in that old pick-up truck when you pulled up?
Every time i've been over there that truck is in the same spot, like it never gets moved. |

Yeah, I worked in the field for a few years when I had to be out there at 6 or 7am every morning. I consider myself pretty damn lucky I don't have to do that right now. Don't miss it one bit, especially when it's this cold! My dad left Magann Corp in 1977, I was 4 years old so that has been a while.
Also, you spelled Stonebridge Rd. wrong.
Dennis, I think the owner of that truck probably lives in one of those old houses. Where are you launching next to the WNB? I live in Downtown Norfolk and would love to be able to launch in that area.
The bigger fish are around there. A couple weeks ago I pulled in a drag screaming 35" striper closer to the midtown tunnel from the beach. |

Yeah, you can launch off the beach at Bayview Avenue, nice, well lit. 35" is a pretty nice rockfish for the river, there are some around that size all year, that's just an above average fish period. Good catch. TOM - Hobie Revolution (orange), Wilderness Systems Ride 135 (orange), Heritage Redfish 12 (yellow), Mad River Canoe Explorer 14 (yellow)........FOUNDER, BOTTOM 10% CLUB............... Portsmouth, if you look up the intersection of Mt. Vernon Avenue and Bayview St., that's where the pic was taken. It's a limited parking area though. Residential area, not a designated parking for the launch area. |

Dennis, there is plenty of parking you just have to park on the other side of the road. You can launch anywhere from Chataugua to Florida Ave. Anyway, it's not the end all of launches or fishing areas but it's good for me, my office is in Port Norfolk.
