Lynnhaven River Now

Mark your calendars…

June 5th Public Meeting, 8:00 AM at Dockside Inn

Our featured speaker for the June 5th public meeting is Delegate Joe Bouchard.  Delegate Bouchard represents the northwest quadrant of Virginia Beach in the state legislature and serves on the Chesapeake and Natural Resources Committee.  This is your opportunity to hear about his first year in the General Assembly and to ask him questions or bring up the issues that interest you.  He is interested in hearing about our concerns.  Please join us for this important meeting.  All are welcome; no pre-registration required.

June 5th, Phragmites Control Workshop, 7:00-9:00 PM, Princess Anne Library

Back Bay Restoration Foundation is sponsoring a workshop for homeowners on Phragmites Control.  Phragmites is an invasive wetlands grass that has proliferated in our area crowding out the more beneficial native grasses.  If you have wondered what you can do about the Phragmites on your property, come to this presentation.  For more information or to register, call 426-3643.

Rain Barrel Workshop, June 14th, 10:30-12:00

A few spaces remain in our Rain Barrel workshop on Saturday, June 14th, 10:30-12:00 at Cape Henry Collegiate School.  Learn how rain barrels can contribute to restoring our waterways and build your own rain barrel to take home with you.  Pre-registration is required (757-962-5398 or hkuhns@lynnhaven2007.com).  A workshop fee of $50 covers all materials.

June 7th Storm Drain Marker Project, 9:30-11:30 AM

In celebration of Clean the Bay Day, we are organizing groups of volunteers who can go out into neighborhoods in our watershed and install the brand new storm drain markers that the city has recently purchased. As you know, storm water is the primary way that pollutants enter our waterways.   The markers for the Lynnhaven are blue and silver stainless steel and say “Drains to Lynnhaven River”.  We are excited about these new markers that will not only help identify our watershed, but also educate citizens on the importance of being careful about what goes down the storm drain.  Please contact our office if you would like to volunteer to help with this effort, 757-962-5398 or hkuhns@lynnhaven2007.com.

June 14th River Clean-Up, 9:00 AM - Noon

On Saturday, June 14th, we will be doing our regular clean-up on London Bridge Creek at the Hutton Circle Canoe/Kayak Launch.  All are welcome.  Bring your canoe or kayak or partner with a friend.  For directions or more information, contact us at 757-962-5398 or kforget@lynnhaven2007.com.
