New River Memorial Day 08
Modified By Kent Dorfman on 5/30/2008 3:33:31 PM)

Those of you who know me know my family and I take at least one trip to the New River each year and it has been Memorial Day weekend with her family for 3 years straight now.  There are about 20 of us camping on a river bank and, of course, the guys do alot of fishing!  I caught my fair share of smallmouth bass each day with the biggest landed being 16".  I jumped a couple MONSTERS but they were just to smart, as usual.

The river:

2 more nephews with their catch:

And, my daughter, I can't get her to fish but she loves to play in the water:

Hey Kent, what section were you fishing?

We (several of us at work) float the Eggleston to Pembroke section sevral times a year. We haven't been this year, but it looks like the fish are co-operating now. We have been down the Maury a couple times this year. We float from Glen Maury Park down to a take out spot on River Road.

This area is between the Hwy 100 bridge and Claytor Lake.  It's about 6 1/2 hours from Hampton Roads.  Wish it was closer

Pretty bronzebacks! Looked like a fun trip. I spent many hours fishing the New back when I was in college at VA Tech.  It is a great river with plenty of smallies...Used to love fishing the river right at dusk with topwaters.
