Lake Anna Stripers

I'm thinking about heading out to Lake Anna to see if I can catch a few stripers but haven't fished there before for them.  I guess it's a little off the norm for most members of this board, but I thought I'd see if anyone had any tips.  I am going to try to cast net some bait in the early morning and have rigged up a couple of rods with a 2oz egg sinker fish finder rig that I am going to drop straight down to the schools of stripers once they move to deep water by mid-morning / noon.  Any thoughts?  Most of the information I have found sounds like trolling with planers is popular, but I'm not sure that is a viable option from a kayak.  Any help would be great!  And of course, the invite is out to anyone around Richmond that wants to give it a try on Wednesday! -Chad

Re: Lake Anna Stripers

Go on the Lake Anna web site and look at reports. Look for balls of bait fish on your depth finder. Also would try to have at least one rod rigged up with a spoon or jig to vertical jig the balls of bait the striper will be under them. It has been awhile since I have fished up there. Alot of people drift fish for them. Also the blue cat's like to follow schools of bait up there. Stay away from the dishcharge the water is to hot this time of the year.

Re: Lake Anna Stripers

Sturgeon Creek Marina in Spotsylvania is the best place to launch right now. They are in deep water with a couple of small windows in the morning and evening that they will get shallow. They will also go shallow at night. I recommend fishing big cranks, bucktails, storms or large worms (12 inch) off the end of deep points or trolling channel ledges that pass closely to creek mouths, points or shallow banks with structure. Give me a call if you want more info, 757-348-2232
