must read books
Modified By becoyote on 1/29/2008 11:34:45 AM)
Are there any books out there you would consider a must read for saltwater inshore fishing around here?

Not looking for a kayak specific book, just something to learn more about flounder, stripers, specks etc. and how to maybe catch them.

Re: must read books

I dont know about books... but I just started saltwater fishing this year when I moved to the area from central VA...grew up bass fishing and did tournaments etc....

I had a great year of fishing and learned everything from this forum and others on the internet... if you have some time go back through the history on the fishing reports board on this site and various others...

there is a ton of information given by lots of folks about spots, lures, techniques, times, tides, etc.. you just gotta dig it up....

dont laugh cause its short...... Mango Tarpon 100

Re: must read books

Just a couple to read, not necessarily tuned in to getting better at fishing so much as to learning about what's going on in the water around us that we fish. These were all 'asked for' Christmas presents and I haven't finished any yet because I'm a slooooooooooooow reader but they're interesting to me.

The Unnatural history of the Sea - Callum Roberts- a hirtorical read with comparisons to the past bounty of the ocean and today

Beautiful Swimmers - William W. Warner - a book all about the Chesapeake Blue Crabs (because I like to eat them so much)

The Most Important Fish in the Sea - a book about the Menhaden and their importance to the swimming food chain

And last but not least The Complete Kayak Fisherman by our own Ric Burnley, WTF'nG Ric !!

Re: must read books
Tim you can pick it up on Amazon.com right now but I'm not sure if it's available in stores/tackle shops yet. Good read and it is the complete book on yak fishing. There's a thread a few pages back on this board that will give more details.

If you are interested in a really good smallmouth bass kayak fishing book check out Jeff Little's new book In Pursuit of Trophy Smallmouth- My life in a Kayak available at http://www.blueridgekayakfishing.com/. He will be one of the speakers at the Mid-Atlantic Kayak Fishing Symposium.

Re: must read booksI reall
Ric Burnley's book is great for the beginner and expert alike... I have passed it on to a friend who has just enterted the sport and he has stopped asking me a million questions, and is even teaching me a thing or two. Keep up the work, I look forward to more of your publications. Cory can I pick that book up at WRO?

Re: must read booksI reall
Shallow Water Angler is a very informative magazine for the species we target here in our area. They have various articles that cover Redfish, Speckled Trout, Stripers, Snook, Sharks etc. They also do several reviews of tackle as well....Look it up

Re: must read booksI reall

Two very good books that help to understand fish better are Knowing Bass- by Dr. Jones and How Fish Work by Thomas J. Sholseth.

Please wait until after the tournament to read both of these books.
