Rigged Tarpon 140
Just curious if any of yall have a Tarpon 140 and how you rigged it. I would love to see some pictures. Just bought one as my first yak and I would like to make it a fishing machine. Thanks for the help.

Re: Rigged Tarpon 140

Looks like lots of looks and no advice. Sorry I haven't had time to load up the tarpon and take a picture of my 140. For some inspiration you might want to google up "rigged kayaks". A number of sites have good pictures of Tarpons. Also, look on youtube for videos as well.

Some of my favorite sites are:

www.kayakfishingstuff.com

www.kayakfishinggear.com

Tom

www.kayaksportfishing.com

My rigging suggestions are: 1) keep in simple 2) think about it before you drill 3) make it your boat for what you want it to do.  The fun is making it personal.

Re: Rigged Tarpon 140

I added a picture of my mango Tarpon 140 cockpit and tankwell to the Photos. It's basically standard stuff, but we all do something a little different.

When I bought the Humminbird 525, Scotty didn't make a mount big enough for it so I crafted a mount out of mahogany to replace the Scotty mount I had already installed on the console. I removed the Scotty and made the new mount's screw holes match the Scotty holes. The wires feed up through the mount under the Humminbird. The wires are encased in a rubber stopper that plugs the center hole in my wood mount. It seems tight enough. I then added a circle flush mount forward to hold my triple. One problem is that the triple won't swing and lock in with the fishfinder on or off so I had to lock in the post then mount the triple to the post with the bolts. No big deal. Just an engineering oversite. I use one side for rods and I mounted my GPS to the other side. I use the center slot to store the the rod holder that I am not using. Notice too that I have a crossed bungee over the front hatch. It's a little insurance against not getting the cover on tight and a place to strap down a drybag when I need it.

In the tankwell I use a legal size basket because I like the waterproof Plano boxes for saltwater. It also holds my softsided tacklebox for freshwater. The rod leashes were fashioned from a cell phone car charger. The basket has a Scotty mount on the back for my 360 light. The rod holders are held on with cable ties. There are j hooks that lock it into the tankwell. The standard flush mounts are great to hold the anchor on one side. I mounted a V cleat for the anchor line, but I am considering adding two standard cleats fore and aft since the V cleat doesn't grab the line as easy as I would like.

Re: Rigged Tarpon 140
Come to the meeting tonight and you will see a couple rigged 140's. If not someone can take a few pics and post them up for you.

Re: Rigged Tarpon 140

I posted the pictures under the Photos Tab. Click on Photos above and then Rigged Kayaks and look for the mango tarpon. I couldn't figure out how to import the pictures into the Forum.

Re: Rigged Tarpon 140

Thanks for steering me to your pics Tom.

BTW, how DOES a person get their pics to show in a post? Evidently my pic posting kung fu is weak....

Re: Rigged Tarpon 140

Mine too. I ran across anothe post where it was suggested that you upload your pictures to another website then cut and paste them into your thread.  I could not copy and paste the pictures from my screen so I gave up. I will try their method sometime. I just posted a treply on rescue knives where I cut and pasted from a internet ad so that must be the key.
