I have a cheap seat on my kayak right now and for some reason, it's got a permanent bow running inward on the back right where my spine is. It's ok for a little while, but then it just plain aggravates me. With all the seat choices out there, what are some of the more popular, comfortable ones? I feel your pain and I 2nd that question. I have a half a back that came with the kayak. Something with a 3/4 back would be nice. I am anticipating everyones responses. |

Well, first we kinda sorta need to know what types of 'yaks ya'll have <G>. Different yaks have different seat types. |

Your seat is only as good as the money you paid for it. The dollars spent on a seat are is a direct reflection as to the quality of the seat. That sucks but thats business. If you want a good comfortable seat, you will have to pay for it. Good luck Champion of the TKAA 2007 Annual Kayak Fish for Charity Tournament, Orange Hobie Revolution, Yellow WS Ride 135 |

Wallbanger, I'm looking at a very similar seat for my Prowler Big Game. GTS makes some great seats, although they don't give them away. Considering the hours you will spend in your 'yak, that's probably a good investment. Baydaze has one of their Elite seats, which is a step up from that one and can comment on it's comfort and durability. WS Ride 135, OK Big Game Prowler "Meat is Murder - Tasty, Tasty Murder!" |

This is yet another good reason to spend the money up front and get a kayak that comes with a nice seat. I spend a lot of time in my yak and the stock seats on Wilderness Systems boats are very comfortable. The seats on the Native are very comfortable as well and I know a lot of people that talk about how much more comfortable they are than anything else they have tried. I know if sucks if you already have the kayak, but this is something to consider for people that are looking to buy their first boat. Harmony makes a very good fishing seat that isn't as expensive as the others and Sea Air Sport makes a killer kayak fishing seat. The GTX is great too, but that has been covered.

You don't have to spend$100 or more to get a comfortable and functional kayak seat. Here is one I made from a resin lawn chair. I replaced my Seairsport agony seat with this $4 seat from Goodwill.
All it takes is a hack saw and some zip ties.
