GOOP

Having gone back and read past posts on mounting a transducer, I was ready to go with the "Glob of Goop"  method until I read the following on the directions of the GOOP tube, "GOOP is not recommended for use on polystyrene, polyethylene or polypropylene plastics".  A quick tour through the OK website indicates that my Prowler 15 is in fact made of polyethylene plastic.  Many of you seem to have used GOOP without any problems.  Should I be concerned?

Thanks, Walrus

P.S.  This is my 1st post since joining TKAA at the July mtg.  I have already learned a lot form these FORUM discussions and the members I have met on the water.  Thanks again.

Re: GOOP

Welcome to the TKAA Walrus. I have used the Marine Goop without any problems so far.

Re: GOOP

Welcome to the club there. I also have used the marine goop before, i think it actually said it was outdoor/marine with no problems. I posted in the past that I have also used a special sealant I get at work that we use on aircraft fuel tanks. It cures in about 4-5 hours and ver yrarely gets any air bubbles. Get in touch with me if this interests you. Jason

Re: GOOP

First thing first, welcome Walrus.  Iknow that a lot of guys use Lextel.  You can get it at Taylors Do it yourself centers.  I have one in my yak that has been there for a few years.    Lextel is what I would recommend.  Just make sure you scuff the area where you are going to mount the transducer a little with some rough sand paper to give it somehitng to hold on to.  Let me know if you need some help.

Re: GOOP

Welcome!

I think it is called Lexel without the t but Darrel is right, that is supposed to be the 'best'.  I have always used Goop b/c it is easy to find, if you use it, make sure to use the Marine kind only, the other stuff will not hold up when it gets wet and it will peal off.  The Marine Goop works, I can attest to that.  Still, take Darrels' advice and try the Lexel if you can find it at Taylors.

Re: GOOP
Welcome. Marine Tex makes a flexible marine adhesive as does 3m - you can get both at places like Boater's World or West Marine (as well as marine Goop). I don't like the 3m product but have used the Marine Tex for permanent oriented things, but for my transducer I used marine Goop with no problems.

Re: GOOP

Thanks everyone for the feedback.  I picked up a tube of LEXEL yesterday at Taylor's,; $5.19 a tube.  If this doesn't work I'll just buy a swim mask and look for the fish!  Walrus

Re: GOOP

You're going to love it.  I got rid of mine thinking I wouldn't miss it......guess what, I do!  Rough up the spot where you are installing it and squirt a large glob and then press the transducer down.  Be careful, you don't want to pull it up or move it around, air bubbles can cause it to not work.  Put something heavy on it or tape it down while it dries.  Good luck.
