I took my kayak to OBX for the week hoping to enjoy a week of fishing. Sunday, my fourth outing with the Humminbird on board and my depth reading was stuck on 1.3 feet. I'm getting contour lines and temperature readings but no depth. I struck up a conversation at the ramp with a guy who said he had the same problem with hisHumminbird and the one they replaced it with. Mine's over a year old though just installed this year so I guess the warranty is over. Has anyone else experienced a similar problem?

Here's the update on my 525. I returned the display unit and a $59.95 check to Humminbird. It was out of warranty.  They sent it back with a new transponder. It took me 30 minutes to peel the old one off the hull. I checked it out tonight. When I paddle the readings tend to bounce around, but once I stopped the readings were accurate.

Would I buy another Humminbird? I like the large display and I have it tuned to eliminate the surface clutter. I wanted smaller plugs that the Humminbird had so my install would be easier, but I question their quality and only time will tell.
