Transom transducer as shoot through?
After finally getting my Garmin 300c fish finder in the mail I realized that the transducer is designed to be mounted on a transom or trolling motor. I'm hoping that this is typical for all the smaller fish/depth finders and that it will work fine (or as good as expected) as a shoot through transducer. Someone please tell me that this damn thing will still shoot through. Thanks, Ryan

All of them are designed to mount on the outside of the hull of a boat.  They will all shoot through as long as you mount it right, no air bubbles.

Re: Transom transducer as shoot through?

As to the 360' white light it is NOT MANDITORY. All you need is a headlamp/flashlight  that can be shown in time to prevent a collision. Don't get me wrong , the all around is a nice feature, just a give away if trying to be stealthy........

Re: Transom transducer as shoot through?

Taking into consideration the places we fish at night, I can only add that an all around white light showing continuously can also be mistaken to indicate a 'powered vessel' and might cause some right of way issues.  Our normal use, and the back and forth we do to the HRBT and Lynnhaven,  a few other choice spots, I feel a good bright flashlight that can't be mistaken as background light is better than the choice of the normal small all around white light's I've seen.  I'd have the all around to turn on if a powered vessel came near probably and have a 'real' flashlight that would reliably indicate my presense if the powered vessel came closer to my location. A bright enough light will light up the hull and certainly get their attention if needed better than a head lamp or small weak all around.    Just another humble opinion given for thought. The law says you need a light, torch something.  You're talking about getting your butt home without someone getting hurt because they mistook you for something you weren't, or further away than you were.  I want them to know.  It's as important as your cold water gear.

Re: Transom transducer as shoot through?

red and green lights are used for powered vessels and you would be mistaken for a powered vessel if you had those two colors . check out the 360 at wro. very brite, lasts for 100hrs. if a boat comes by close then i hit my headlamp. if it is about safety, why not both?

Re: Transom transducer as shoot through?

love the 300C..installed it in the hull in an ocean Kayak Prowler 13 angler. (and a second one on my carolina skiff) The first time in the kayak I used 5200 type marine sealant and I must have gotten a bubble in it...didnt work..ripped it out and used goop the second time and its shweeeeet!!! I have analyzed the garmin vs others and I have been to Garmin "Glass cockpit" school for flying at their factory..The connectors are awesome, the didgital imaging, and the brightness makes it a hands down winner in my opinion for a fishfinder only. I got mine at west marine for $195 back in the spring. They retail at $249. but Im watching for another sale to pick up another one. Great choice and yeas the transom wolks great in hull...use goop.

Re: Transom transducer as shoot through?

oh yeah..one additional note..I just discovered garmin makes a temperature probe the the ducer plug plugs into then goes on to the head unti..so we can do an in hull install with good and rig a probe semwher to get temp....go to the 300c garmin page then look at accessories.
